The Secret to Preventing a Cold

It is still cold and flu season, and it seems like we might be here for a little bit longer. Here is a new recipe and a few tips to store in your arsenal to fight them off.

First and foremost: Get enough sleep. The amount of repair and rejuvenation that happens when you are sleeping is amazing. Every time I read something new that our brain or body does when we are sleeping, I am reminded what an amazing machine our body is! So, let it rest and heal!

Second, keep yourself warm. Wear scarves, turtlenecks, warm clothes and socks. Scarves especially are wonderful in protecting your vulnerable neck. There are some big acupuncture points back there and during cold and flu season and windy days it is a good idea to protect them.

This drink (or soup) is a wonderful way to ward off a cold, or even help to prevent it if everyone around you is sick. Make this at the first sign of a runny nose, sneezing, sore or tickly throat.

In a medium pot add:

2 pieces of fresh ginger, crushed

3 large or 5 small green onions, white part and roots only

3 cups water

Bring it to a boil, and them simmer it for 10 minutes. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, stir to combine.

Drink warm before bed.
